It's amazing to listen to The Beatles starting from their first album, Please Please Me, on through Abbey Road (their last recorded album, though it was released before Let It Be). If you've only heard bits and pieces of The Beatles, you owe it to yourself to pick up the box set and listen to all 13 albums in order. That's still the album you get in this package (the 2003 Let It Be… Naked is not included in the box set), but at least you get a few of the songs in their pure (and better) form on the Past Masters disc. But producer Phil Spector felt the album was lacking without these elements and took some of the rawness out of Let It Be. The production of the album Let It Be was a contentious one, with the original intention to be a "back to basics" record that lacked the over-dubbing and stringed arrangements The Beatles had used for the past few years. The Past Masters collection also includes the Paul McCartney-approved versions of "Get Back" and "Let It Be." If you don't know your Beatles history, the inclusion of these versions is important. The Beatles Stereo Box Set comes with all 12 UK-released albums, along with The Magical Mystery Tour, plus a two-disc Past Masters package that gathers all of The Beatles' singles not released on albums.
